Gilani concerned over custodial disappearance of Hafeezullah

Srinagar, May 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has expressed serious concern over the custodial disappearance of illegally detained Hurriyet leader, Mir Hafeezullah. Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that after the recent killing of Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullah, following a murderous assault, family members of Mir Hafeezullah were worried and anxious about his whereabouts.

He said that Hafeezullah was arrested on April 4 this year after the court quashed his detention under the draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), but the authorities, instead of releasing him, once again slapped PSA on him and shifted him to Hira Nagar jail.

The veteran leader said that court had directed the authorities to present Mir Hafeezullah before it but the prosecutor on behalf of the puppet administration filed an affidavit on Wednesday (May 8), denying that no such person was in their custody.

Syed Ali Gilani said that Hafeezullah was not keeping well in jail and his deteriorating health was a matter of serious concern and now the response and statement of the prosecution with respect to Hafeezullah had created doubts about his well-being. He said that the puppet administration would be responsible if anything untoward happened to the detained leader.

He urged the Amnesty International and other human rights organisations to take cognizance of the matter and ascertain the reality about his whereabouts. He also demanded immediate release of all illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists including Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and Mir Hafeezullah lodged in different jails of India and the occupied territory.
