JRL condemns arrest, slapping of PSA on Umar Aadil Dar

Srinagar, August 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has condemned the arrest of Hurriyat leader, Umar Aadil Dar, who has been shifted to Kathua jail after being booked under black law, Public Safety Act (PSA).

The resistance leaders in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Umar Aadil Dar along with another Hurriyat leader, Hakeem Abdul Rashid on August 1, 2018, was visiting Bar Association Islamabad district with a letter from the leadership regarding the issue of Article 35-A. “He was arrested outside the court premises and within 24 hours slapped with PSA and sent to Kathua jail. Neither was his family in Srinagar informed about his arrest or shifting nor was he presented before any court,” they said.

The leaders, while condemning this arbitrary arrest and use of black law, said that on August 1, 2018, a statement from Director General of Police (DGP) was published in media in which he had said that no peaceful protest regarding 35-A would be stopped. “The ink of this statement had not even dried up when police arrested Umar Aadil Dar in Islamabad and booked him under PSA,” it said.

The resistance leaders said, either the DGP is trying to befool public through his soft statements or his own officers on ground have no respect for his statements or orders which is bizarre. They said that in past too, the DGP had been issuing statements like these but on ground his officers did contrary to that and unleashed a reign of terror on whosoever came their way.

Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik said that Jammu and Kashmir has been turned into a police state where many districts and regions had been handed over to criminals and sick-minded people in uniform, who were deployed only to terrorize, humiliate and torture common people especially the political activists and act like the bosses of some gangs and gangsters.

They appealed to the world human rights organizations especially the UN Human Rights Council and the International Committee of Red Cross to take cognizance of the arbitrary and illegal acts of Indian forces in the occupied territory.
