Karachi Commissioner reviews implementation of Water Commission orders

Karachi, September 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): A meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Sualeh Faruqui reviewed the progress of the work being undertaken for the implementation of the directives issued by the Water Commission with regard to the face lifting of the city. It was decided in the meeting that the face lifting work being carried out would be prioritized and main arteries would be improved in first step. It was also decided that patch work will soon begin, tree plantation already initiated would be enhanced , on identified islands would be beatified and the traffic signs which have been defaced would also be replaced with new ones.

He asked the KMC, KDA, all the District Municipal Corporations and Chief Executive Officers of Cantonment Boards and District Council Karachi to provide lists of the names of the roads and officials looking after the uplift work pertaining to them. Particularly the work of cleanliness, removal of debris as well as removal of encroachments creating hurdles in flow of vehicular traffic, ,patch work , beatification if traffic islands , patch work on the identified roads beside other work. They have been asked to submit the details through a filled in proforma sent to them and also to ensure that the work being carried out were visible to the citizens/road users.

Member Task force of the Water Commission Asif Hyder Shah and the Municipal Commissioner KMC Dr Saifur Rehman were also present in the meeting. Commissioner Karachi asked the officials to implement the directives of the Water Commission. He said campaign initiated by the Water Commission for the uplift of the city should be visible and result oriented. He also stressed the need to develop the reporting mechanism by the civic agencies He said reporting mechanism would help civic agencies to develop data required to analyse the necessary records and information required to monitor the daily performance of the agencies.

It was decided in the meeting that all civic agencies would depute focal persons for the task given by the water commission to them for the improvement of the uplift work. Such lists should be submitted to the. He further said that all the civic agencies should work with proactive approach rather than complaint base approach The civic agencies were also directed to take steps to oblige the officials to be responsible and to carry out their responsibilities with coordinated management. He asked to ensure work done should be visible.

He also appreciated the good work at some places done by the agencies specially the work done on Sharae Faysal Commissioner also directed the deputy commissioners to play their role in the campaign to make the city clean and beautify and to carry out effective monitoring the tasks assigned to the civic agencies. He asked the deputy commissioners to pay visit to observe the performance of the officials deputed and submit the reports on their performance every week.

The meeting was attended among others by Member for the Water Commission Asif Hyder Shah and the Municipal Commissioner KMC Dr Saifur Rehman Additional Commissioner Karachi –II Ghulam Murtaza Memon, Director Local Government Farooq Siddiqui, Assistant commissioner General Commissioner Karachi office Aijaz Hussain Rind, all deputy commissioners, all CEOs of Cantonment Boards, senior officers of KDA, KW and SB, Solid Waste Management, and representatives of K-Electric and Sui gas company.
