Srinagar, June 14, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, senior leader of pro-India National Conference, Mustafa Kamal while welcoming the admission of failure by top Indian army’s General about winning hearts and minds of Kashmiris through Sadbhavna operation has said that Jammu and Kashmir is not a militancy issue, but it is a political and human issue whose roots are embedded in 1947’s Partition Plan.
Mustafa Kamal, who is also uncle of former puppet Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the fact was that militancy started in 1989-90 and had its roots firmly embedded in the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947, and was thus a manifestation of a political nature with a human angle and not a military issue.
The chief of Northern Command, Lt General D S Hooda, in a media interview last week openly admitted about failure of the Indian army’s Sadbhavna operation, and Mustafa Kamal termed his remarks as a “frank admission made belated”.
He asked the army to wind up the operation and go back to “their mandated job of guarding the borders”. He also urged the government of India to take immediate cognisance of the disclosure made by a serving senior army commander posted in occupied Kashmir.
Mustafa Kamal said that the failure of Sadbhavna in an attempt to turn things around was bound to happen. “Crores of rupees of precious public money have been spent on this ill-conceived and perhaps ill-intentioned scheme is but a tragic waste of public money and most of all compromised the efficiency and efficacy of the army and paramilitary forces in Kashmir,” he said.
Calling for repealing black law, Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), the NC leader stressed the political leadership of India to deal with the problem politically “in light of its historic background and the national and international commitments made by top political leadership and successive governments of India from time to time.
