Kashmir resolution vital for peace in region: IOK JI

Srinagar, January 04, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has said that Kashmir dispute has been hanging resolution since 1947 and its amicable settlement can bring durable peace and prosperity in entire South Asia.

The JI spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that it was India that had taken the Kashmir dispute to the United Nations and the then Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, had promised to the people of Kashmir that they would be given their right to self-determination.

He deplored that despite the passage of more than six decades New Delhi was using delaying tactics and the commitment with Kashmiris was yet to be fulfilled. He said that the role of world community regarding the Kashmir dispute was also disappointing.

He maintained that the dispute should be resolved through tripartite dialogue under the UN resolutions. He said that the inclusion of the Kashmiris’ real leadership in the dialogue process was inevitable for its lasting solution.

The spokesman demanded settlement of the Kashmir dispute according to the aspirations of Kashmiri people so that uncertainty in the South Asian region could be ended.
