Kashmiri Man Detained Under Public Safety Act in Ramban

Jammu: Indian police arrested Ghulam Nabi in the Ramban district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, charging him under the Public Safety Act (PSA), a law often criticized for its stringent provisions and potential for abuse.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Ghulam Nabi, son of Abdul Rehman and a resident of Bhimdassa, Gool, has been placed in District Jail Jammu following his arrest. Police justify the detention as a preventive measure, alleging Nabi’s involvement in activities against the state. This action was taken after the police prepared a detailed dossier on Nabi, which received approval from the District Magistrate of Ramban.

The use of the PSA in Jammu and Kashmir has been a point of contention, with human rights organizations and local populations citing its applications as a tool for suppressing dissent and targeting the Kashmiri population under the guise of maintaining public order.
