Peshawar, The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced an investment of PKR 1 billion into the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service in Peshawar to maintain its operations, a decision that has been welcomed by commuters and officials alike.
According to Zameen.com on November 4, the KP government’s funding allocation is specifically directed to cover the operational costs of the BRT from November 2023 to February 2024. This financial boost comes amid rumors that the BRT service might face closure or limitations due to financial constraints. However, a press release from the government dismissed these claims, confirming the immediate release of funds to ensure all operational costs and payments to service providers are met timely.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Transport and Housing, Zafarullah Khan, stressed the importance of the BRT service, which is utilized by around 300,000 passengers daily. He noted that any disruptions to this service would significantly affect the daily life and economic activity in Peshawar, thus the government’s commitment to ensuring its continuous operation is a priority.
