Ladakh Authorities Enforce Section 144 Ahead of ‘Pashmina March’

Leh, In anticipation of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk’s ‘Pashmina March’ set for Sunday in Ladakh, local authorities have implemented Section 144 in the Leh district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, prohibiting assemblies, processions, and the use of loudspeakers without official permission.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the decree issued by District Magistrate Leh, Santosh Sukhdeva, followed a cautionary note from the Senior Superintendent of Police in Leh about the march potentially disrupting public peace and harmony. This preventive measure restricts any form of public gatherings, rallies, or marches unless explicitly approved by the District Magistrate.

The directive specifically bans the unauthorized use of vehicles equipped with loudspeakers, underscoring the administration’s intent to maintain order during Wangchuk’s ‘Pashmina March’ in the Changthang region. This march, organized by the noted climate advocate, aims to draw attention to the demands of the local population in one of Ladakh’s most remote areas.
