Land-Sinking in Ramban Displaces Over 500, Causes Extensive Damage

Jammu, Over 500 individuals from Parnote village in the Ramban district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have been displaced due to severe land-sinking incidents. The ongoing geological disturbances have wreaked havoc in the region, leading to significant property and infrastructural damage.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the disaster struck Pernote village last Thursday evening, compounded by heavy rains that led to the land sinking rapidly. This natural calamity has resulted in the destruction of 58 houses and the displacement of around 100 families who, along with their livestock, have been forced to evacuate their homes. Many affected residents are now living in the open, while others have sought temporary refuge with relatives and neighbors.

Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary detailed the extent of the damage, noting that crucial infrastructure such as a 33 kv receiving station, several high-tension towers, and numerous houses have been compromised or destroyed. The subsidence also blocked the Ramban-Gool road and disrupted the power supply to the area, significantly affecting daily life and safety.

The land in parts of Parnote sank by 20 to 30 meters, severely disrupting agricultural activities and uprooting a large number of pine trees, which further illustrates the scale of the environmental impact. The local authorities are currently assessing the situation and determining the best course of action to support the displaced families and restore the affected infrastructure.
