Lahore: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has pledged to address the challenges facing marriage halls by engaging with top government officials. This commitment was articulated by LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad and Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman during a meeting with a delegation from the Marriage Halls Association, led by Junaid Zia. The meeting aimed to tackle pressing issues such as recent restrictions on operational timings and their broader effects on related industries.
According to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the gathering, arranged by former LCCI Senior Vice President Ali Hussam Asghar, was attended by notable figures including Yousaf Shah, Raja Hassan Akhtar, and others. President Mian Abuzar Shad proposed extending marriage hall operational hours from 9:00 PM to 11:30 PM to better support wedding events and associated businesses. He highlighted the economic repercussions of early shutdowns, impacting not only the marriage hall industry but also sectors like poultry and labor.
Former Senior Vice President Ali Hussam Asghar reiterated LCCI’s steadfast support for the marriage hall industry, recalling its struggles during the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized the Chamber’s commitment to finding sustainable solutions. It was agreed that the Marriage Hall Association would draft a detailed proposal outlining industry challenges and solutions, which would form the basis for discussions with high-level authorities to advocate for policy amendments.
President Shad emphasized the marriage hall industry’s critical role in supporting sectors such as event management, catering, and daily wage labor. He warned that unwarranted restrictions could lead to widespread financial losses, affecting many livelihoods. LCCI Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman assured continued advocacy for the business community, emphasizing the importance of government support for the marriage hall industry.
