Majority 57% of Pakistanis feel ‘respect for elders’ is on the decline: 19% feel it is on the rise. Gilani Poll/Gallup Pakistan

Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan majority (57%) of Pakistanis feel „respect for elders‟ is on the decline; 19% feel it is on the rise.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “In your view, overall in our society rate of respect towards elderly has decreased, increased or remained the same?” Responding to this 57% think that the respect for elderly people has decreased, 19% think that it has increased whereas 24% think that there has been no difference.

Question: “In your view, overall in our society rate of respect towards elderly has decreased, increased or remained the same?”

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2698 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during November 06 – November 12, 2011.

Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
