Malik to sit on 48-hour hunger strike in Delhi from May 3

Srinagar, April 28, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, has gone to New Delhi where he is scheduled to sit on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar from May 3, for 48 hours to press for the demand for return of mortal remains of Kashmiri leaders, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru.

A JKLF spokesman in a statement in Srinagar said that the hunger strike by Yasin Malik would also be aimed at highlighting the plight of thousands of Kashmiris languishing in various jails especially those sentenced to life imprisonment and those who were in jails despite release orders from courts besides the plight of minors and the youth booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act.

Before leaving for Delhi, the JKLF Chairman in a media interview said, “Our hunger strike will draw the world attention towards those who after being killed in fake encounters were dubbed as foreign militants, those who remain buried in thousands of unmarked graves and those who still feel the pain of torture and injuries. We will protest against the black laws like Public Safety Act and Armed Forces Special Powers Act that provide the Indian forces a license to kill at will.”

“It is our moral duty and human right to protest against these abuses. Through our 48- hour hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, we will try to attract attention of human lovers to the plight of Kashmiris and God willing we will succeed in our endeavour,” he added.
