Karachi, August 15, 2013 (PPI-OT): Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW and SB) Misbahuddin Farid visited North Karachi Association of Trade and Industries (NKATI) with Deputy Managing Director Technical Services (DMD TS) Iftikhar Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director Revenue (DMD RRG) Waqar Hashmi, Chief Engineer (CE) Bulk Najam Alam Siddiqui, Chief Engineer (CE) Central Faheem Zaidi and other officers to discuss the problems members of NKATI are facing and motivate them to pay their outstanding dues and bills on time.
Chairman NKATI M. Farooq Khatura welcomed KW and SB delegation lead by M.D KW and SB. Whereas; speaking to Chairman NKATI M. Farooq Khatura, CEO Syed Usman Ali Rasheed, Members of Executive Committee; Rasheed Fooder Wala, Faraz Mirza (Water Committee) and Noor Ahmed Khan (Sewerage Committee) said that industrial development plays an important role in the overall uplift of the country. KW and SB is striving day and night to improve provision of water supply and sewerage services to the citizens and industrialists of the city.
Furthermore, he said that Karachi is the industrial and economic hub of the country and KW and SB always strives to resolve complaints by Industrialists on priority basis and provide industries with exceptional services since they are one of the major stake holders of the city. However, industrialists must also understand their responsibility and pay their bills on time. He hoped that industries not paying their outstanding dues despite repeated reminders would now pay their bills.
Chairman NKATI briefing M.D KW and SB regarding the problems stated that industries in the North Karachi require a 12 inch additional connection to fulfil their needs and requested approval for the connection. Moreover, Federal Government has directed NKATI to establish Hydrants in the industrial zone in order to overcome fire emergency situations. KW and SB has been directed to provide water for these hydrants, provide with manhole covers that can bear more load and ensure cleaning of the sewage system.
M.D KW and SB on this occasion stated that in case of fire emergency at any industrial units in NKATI zone Saba Hydrant would be handed over to them for fire fighting purpose. A post would be established for the association where tankers would also be present around the clock. He said that KW and SB would provide NKATI with specially designed man-hole covers that would bear load of heavy vehicles. He said that 12 inch connection would only be provided with the approval of Elected Representatives and payment of KW and SB charges.
Directing Chief Engineers to coordinate with NKATI he also ordered that a survey of the area must be conducted and submit their suggestion for improving water supply situation and supply in the area. He also directed them to monitor the supply in the area as well as maintain coordination between KW and SB and NKATI officials.
He said that KW and SB is ensuring provision through equal and fair supply policy to all areas but we can only ensure this if citizens and industrialists pay their dues on time so that KW and SB can ensure provision of facilities through proper maintenance of KW and SB infrastructure. He said that facilities can be improved with the help of consumers and industrialists of the city.
