Managing Director Pakistan International Airline, in his farewell address to the airline officials at the Head Office

Karachi: Managing Director PIA, Mr. Nadeem Khan Yousafzai in his farewell address to the airline officials at the Head Office impressed upon them that they must continue to be steadfast for turning around the National Flag Carrier here on Tuesday.

M. Nadeem Khan Yousafzai thanked the President of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari and the Federal Minister of Defence Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar for their support to the airline and the aviation industry in Pakistan and with their blessings PIA is destined to grow.
The Farewell Ceremony of the outgoing Managing Director was charged with appreciation by the employees for his one year tenure in which he dealt with them in utter kindness and compassion to bring the airline out of the chaos in which he took over in February 2011. His approach towards the employees created a healthy management-employee relationship motivating the employees to work for the betterment of the airline beyond call of duty.

PIA successfully managed its difficult 62-day Hajj operation with its own fleet although there were many constraints as far as the fleet management, engineering and aircraft maintenance was concerned. However, the MD praised the engineering department for devotedly carrying out their work against many odds and kept the aircraft flying.

The MD emphasized that the incoming Managing Director Air Chief Marshall (R) Rao Qamar Suleman has tremendous leadership qualities of head and heart and would prove dynamic in turning around PIA. He emphasized upon the PIA officers to whole heartedly welcome the new Managing Director PIA as change is always good and with his leadership qualities both the airline and its employees would benefit.

He stressed that PIA fleet replacement with fuel efficient aircraft is of top priority at the moment as the ageing aircraft are both heavy on fuel and maintenance costs causing losses to PIA. However, he said that his support and guidance will always be available for improving the airline and thanked the officers and staff for their devoted support during his tenure.

The outgoing MD informed the PIA employees that Air Chief Marshall (R) Rao Qamar Suleman is expected to take over charge as Managing Director PIA on Thursday, March 29, 2012.
