Manipur Police Detain 69 in Statewide Raids Amid Ongoing Tribal Tensions

Imphal: In a significant crackdown, Manipur police have detained 69 individuals during a series of raids and search operations conducted across several districts of the state, an area recently plagued by severe ethnic violence.

According to Kashmir Media Service, these operations were initiated in response to last May’s deadly clashes between the Meitei and Kuki tribes, which resulted in over two hundred deaths and left thousands homeless. The suspects were arrested under various charges laid out in the Indian Penal Code as part of efforts to restore order and prevent further violence. To bolster security, the state has seen an increase in the deployment of Indian forces, with 123 checkpoints established throughout Manipur’s sensitive regions.
