Meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice held at Parliament House under the Chairmanship of Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi

Islamabad, December 29, 2020 (PPI-OT): The meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice was held on Monday at Parliament House under the Chairmanship of Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi. The meeting was attended by Senator Sana Jamali, Senator Sirajul Haq, Senator Walid Iqbal, Senator Zeeshan Khanzada, and senior officers of the Ministry of Law and Justice; Ministry of Interior along with all concerned. Senator Lt. General Abdul Qayyum HI (M) Retd as mover of an amendment was a special invitee.

The agenda taken up by the Committee included, Consideration of the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2020, (Amendment of Article 140) introduced by Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi in the Senate sitting held on 13th July, 2020; Consideration of Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights (Amendment) Bill 2020 introduced by Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi in Senate sitting held on 26th October, 2020; Consideration of the Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights (Amendment) Bill 2020 introduced by Senator Sirajul Haq in the Senate sitting held on 26th October, 2020; Consideration of the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2020 (Amendment of Article of 213), introduced by Senator Sirajul Haq in the Senate sitting held on 26th October 2020; Consideration of Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2020 (Amendment of Article 213 and 215) introduced by Senator Lt. General Abdul Qayyum HI (M) Retd in the Senate sitting held on 26th October, 2020; Consideration of the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2020 (Amendment of Article 93), introduced by Senator Sirajul Haq in the Senate sitting held on 26th October, 2020;

The meeting commenced with Consideration of the Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights (Amendment) Bill 2020 introduced by Senator Sirajul Haq in the Senate sitting held on 26th October, 2020; which was withdrawn by the Mover.

The Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2020 (Amendment of Article of 213 and 215), introduced by Senator Sirajul Haq and Senator Lt. General Abdul Qayyum HI (M) Retd in the Senate sitting held on 26th October, 2020; was passed with a few amendments suggested by Committee members.

The Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2020 (Amendment of Article 93), introduced by Senator Sirajul Haq and the Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights (Amendment) Bill 2020 introduced by Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi in Senate sitting held on 26th October, 2020 have been pended for further review and discussion. The Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2020, (Amendment of Article 140) introduced by Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi in the Senate sitting held on 13th July, 2020 was passed by a majority vote.
