Mehbooba Mufti Advocates for Reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir’s Special Status

Srinagar, In a resolute public address, Mehbooba Mufti, President of the Peoples Democratic Party, has called for the reinstatement of the special status for Jammu and Kashmir, which was stripped away by the Indian government on August 5, 2019.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking at a rally in Islamabad, South Kashmir, on Monday, Mufti labeled the Indian government’s revocation of the region’s autonomy as “illegal” and “unconstitutional.” She challenged the actions taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and urged the local population to actively oppose these changes in the occupied territory.

Mufti’s statements underline the ongoing political strife and tension in the region following the significant constitutional amendment three years ago, which continues to elicit strong reactions from local leaders and communities.
