Mehbooba Mufti Warns India with Bangladesh Crisis as Example

Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti has cited the recent political upheaval in Bangladesh as a cautionary tale for India, emphasizing that authoritarian regimes are unsustainable and warning against the disenfranchisement of youth.

According to Kashmir Media Service, while speaking with reporters in Srinagar, Mufti highlighted the chaotic departure of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, forced to resign after intense street protests and public dissent. She described how protesters looted and vandalized Hasina’s residence and torched party offices, celebrating her exit as a victory against oppressive governance.

Mufti drew parallels between the discontent in Bangladesh and the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, noting similar frustrations among the youth over unemployment, inflation, and systemic oppression. “When you push the youth to the wall, disappoint them by failing to tackle rising inflation and unemployment, and make them feel helpless even after getting an education, a Bangladesh-like situation can arise,” she explained, urging Indian authorities to heed these warnings and address the grievances of the younger population to avoid a similar crisis.
