Minister for Transport has immediately lifted ban on inter provincial route permits

Peshawar: After introduction of computerized route permits in Peshawar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Transport and Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has immediately lifted ban on inter provincial route permits while formal decision for lifting ban on urban route permits would be made after consultation with the transporters.

He made this decision while chairing a meeting of the Transport Department at Peshawar the other day. The meeting beside others was also attended by the Secretary Transport, Commissioner Peshawar Division, DIG Traffic, Secretaries of PTA and RTAs and authorities concerned of Excise and Taxation and Local Govt: Department.

The Minister maintained that presently ban was being lifted in Peshawar only and after computerization of RTAs, the ban would be lifted in the entire province. He declared that computerization of RTAs would be completed within six months.

He further said it was seriously contemplating to ban individual route permits system in order to streamline the regular traffic in the province. In future, he said that urban route permits would be given to those Transport Operating Companies which have at least 8 -15 passengers vehicles. Each company would ensure vehicles on all urban routes i.e. a. b and c category routes as per the prescribed quota and in case of violation, all the route permits of the violating companies would be cancelled, he added.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain while taking strong exception of the illegal bus stands in the province particularly in Peshawar, directed the authorities concerned of his department to take action against such stands and also submit a report that why action had not yet been taken against it.

He further directed to initiate action against those bus stands also whose licenses have not yet been renewed. He expressed dismay over the poor cleanliness condition and non provision of basic facilities to the passengers in general bus stands and ordered the concerned quarters to improve the same otherwise strict action would be taken against the responsible one.

The meeting also discussed the issue of Qinchqi Rikshaws and directed the authorities concerned to come up with viable proposal for regulating the said Rikshaws and bring them into the tax net.
