Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), expressed strong disapproval of the local authorities’ decision to ban major religious gatherings in Srinagar, including key observances like Jummatul Wida, Shab-e-Qadr, and Eid prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during a sermon at the Jamia Masjid on Friday, Mirwaiz criticized the government’s approach in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, contrasting the public assurances of normalcy with actions that limit religious freedom. He highlighted the frequent closures of the mosque and his own detainment as evidence that undermines the authorities’ claims about the situation in the region.
Mirwaiz emphasized the significance of the Jamia Masjid’s pulpit as a beacon of truth throughout history, vowing to continue speaking out against injustices. He announced that regular religious services, including the next Friday majlis wa’z and prayers, will proceed as scheduled, reinforcing the community’s resilience and faith amid these challenges.
