Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Denounces Collaboration with Oppressors in Kashmir, Criticizes Planned Elections

Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has condemned the ongoing support for oppressors by some individuals within the Kashmiri ranks, amidst the backdrop of a planned sham assembly election by the Modi government. Speaking at a public gathering, Farooq emphasized the long-standing suffering and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people over the past 77 years under Indian occupation, asserting that these should deter any form of support for the oppressors for personal gain.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Farooq expressed his deep disappointment over the betrayal by those within their community who align themselves with the oppressors, criticizing them as opportunists and instruments of oppression. He highlighted that such actions are unforgivable betrayals of the Kashmiri people and those involved should feel profound shame. Farooq called for greater responsibility and integrity, urging those who cannot oppose the oppressors to at least refrain from becoming complicit in their actions, suggesting that silence is more honorable than active support.

Furthermore, it was noted that the Modi government is orchestrating an assembly election in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled from September 18 to October 1, which the APHC deems illegitimate. This election, to be conducted under the surveillance of over one million Indian troops, is viewed by the APHC as a mere military exercise rather than a legitimate democratic process. The leadership of the APHC has made clear that the Kashmiri people seek freedom from Indian occupation and their right to self-determination, not participation in a fabricated electoral process.
