Mirwaiz urges IOK Punchayat members to resign

Srinagar, May 17, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged the Punchayat representatives of the territory to tender their collective resignations according to their conscious instead of becoming stooges of India for furthering its political interest.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was talking to a seven-member delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Punchayat Association led by its General Secretary, Khurshid Ahmad Malik, that met him in Srinagar.

The delegation informed the APHC Chairman about the recent killings of Punchayat members and uncertainty among them due to serious threats to their lives by unknown people.

The Mirwaiz told the delegates that it was very sad that they completely ignored the ground reality and political situation of the territory at the time of taking part in the Punchayat elections and becoming part of the so-called democratic process.

He said that Kashmir had been converted into a police state and the Indian rulers were using the Kashmiri people for its interests, adding that in such circumstances elections or Punchayat Raj was meaningless.

APHC leaders, Javed Ahmad Mir, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Shahid-ul-Islam, and Mir Shahid Saleem were also present during the meeting.
