Mother tongues playing basic role in recognition and development of the nations: Minister for Culture

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Culture, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that mother tongues playing a basic role in recognition and development of the nations adding that the nations having no language or culture vanished from the horizon.

This he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Radio Program “Koshain” based on local languages “Torwali and Gawri” of Kohistan valley of district Swat at Radio Pakistan Centre Peshawar on Wednesday. The Koshain program of half an hour would be broadcast on each Sunday at 06:30 PM. The Minister assured that he would take their demand for broadcasting the news in Torwali and Gawri daily and weekly cultural program with the high ups of the Radio Pakistan. The ceremony was also addressed by the Forest Minister, Wajid Ali Khan, MPA Jafar Shah, Station Director Peshawar, Laiq Zada Laiq, Muhammad Zubair Torwali and Shamsur Rehman Shams. The minister formally inaugurated the program by pressing the button.

The Minister Information said, keeping in view the importance of mother tongues, the provincial government include; the entire mother tongues as compulsory subject from primary to higher secondary level and work on preparation of its curricula and syllabus started with immediate effect.

Mian Iftikhar continued that we believe on equal status to all the languages and cultures that was why the government was doing its level best to revive all languages, cultures and civilization which were on decline. He added, unfortunately most time of our life was passing on knowing the languages of others and instead of creative work our precious talent was being wasted.

Referring to the terrorism, the Minister Information maintained that major cause of terrorism was denying of fundamental rights to the people due to which hatred, disappointment increased and such people could easily be attracted towards terrorism. “We should have to create atmosphere of love and affection, hat from violence and ensure provision of fundamental rights to all the segments of the society for rooting out terrorism, he added”. The Minister praised the administration of Radio Pakistan for launching the Koshain Program of local languages of Kohistan Valley of District Swat.
