Mpox Case Detected in Pakistan, Prompting Increased Airport Screenings

Islamabad: Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on National Health Services, announced that a single case of Mpox has been identified in Pakistan, originating from a traveler who arrived from the Gulf region into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the affected individual’s detection prompted immediate isolation measures for their family members and intensified screening protocols at airports. Dr. Ahmad emphasized the effectiveness of the current response and the activation of precautionary processes to prevent further spread.

He reassured the public about the manageability of the virus, which transmits through contact and is generally treated with fever and pain medications, reserving antiviral drugs for more severe cases. Despite the low mortality rate associated with Mpox, Dr. Ahmad urged returning travelers to self-isolate if they exhibit symptoms such as rashes, flu, fever, or body aches, to mitigate any potential health risks.
