Karachi, September 22, 2018 (PPI-OT): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that well-coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies (LEAS) made Ashura event peaceful, therefore he appreciated the performance of police, rangers and intelligence agencies. This he said while presiding over an informal law and order meeting at CPO on September 21. The meeting was attended by CM Advisor on Law and Information Murtaza Wahab, IG Sindh Kaleem Imam, Additional IGs, Aftab Pathan, Dr Waliullah Dal and Commissioner Karachi Sualeh Farooqi.
The chief minister said that his efforts to make police more professional and public-friendly would be continued by launching different training programmes. “The capacity building of Karachi police was in progress and now time has come to change police uniform,” he said and added “I am of the opinion that T-shirt may also be allowed to policemen so that they can perform their duty in sweltering weather comfortably,” he said. The IG said that he would provide different sample of proposed uniforms to the chief minister for his guidance and approval.
Mr Shah said that he had visited three divisions, Karachi, Sukkur and Larkana to take aerial view of the mourning processions and witness security arrangements. “There was proper deployment of police and Rangers at majalis and mourning processions,” he said and added the district administration also worked hard for provisions of all facilities on the routes of the processions and at and around majalis locations. “I am also thankful to all the ulemas and religious scholars for their support and cooperation to make the Ashura event peaceful,” he said.
On Ashura day, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah clad in black shalwar kameez visited Saddar to witness security arrangements made for mourning processions. He walked from the Empress market to M.A Jinnah Road and received the mourning procession there and led it upto the Empress Market and met with the organizers of the processions. Latter he flew to Sukkur to review security arrangements made in sensitive districts.
The chief minister along with provincial minister Syed Nasir Shah, his Advisor Murtaza Wahab took aerial view of the mourning processions taken out at Shikarpur and its taluka headquarter Khanpur, Jacobabad city, Rohri of Sukkur, Khairpur city and its taluka headquarter Kotdiji. In the evening Mr Shah returned to Karachi and took aerial view of the mourning procession which was reaching at its termination point.
Parks, nalas, Green Line: The chief minister during his aerial visit witnessed the plight of some of the parks which were in shambles. They include Jheel Park, Hill Park, various parks in Nazimabad, North Nazimabad and other areas. He vowed to rehabilitate these parks through concerned local bodies and involve local communities to restore and then look after them. “Karachi needs more parks and massive tree plantation and we all, local bodies, civil societies and NGOS have to work collectively,” he said.
Mr Shah also noticed that various nalas were still uncleared and were filled with filth and garbage. He decided to talk to KMC and DMCs to make them clean from head to tail. The chief minister also took aerial view of BRT Green Line project infrastructure. It is at the completion stage except a portion from Numaish towards M.A Jinnah Road. Pre-CCI meeting: On September 22, the chief minister presides over a pre-CCI meeting at CM House to review the agenda and his government decisions for CCI meeting to be held under prime minister on September 24 in Islamabad.
The meeting was attended by energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh, Chief Minister Advisor Murtaza Wahab, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Secretary Law Raheem Soomro and other concerned officers. The chief minister reiterated his stance that Karachi needs 1200 cusecs additional water for K-IV project and vowed to convince the CCI meeting to approve the provincial government request.
