Mumbai, A Muslim prisoner implicated in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts was killed by five fellow inmates in Kalamba Central Jail, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, following an altercation, police reported. The attack marks a violent episode within the corrections system, spotlighting issues of inmate safety and communal tensions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the victim, 59-year-old Mohammad Ali Khan, also known as Munna, was assaulted in the jail’s bathroom area after an argument with some under-trial inmates. The attackers reportedly used the iron cover from the drainage to strike Khan’s head, leading to fatal injuries. He was immediately transported to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
The assailants, identified by authorities as Prateek alias Pilya Suresh Patil, Deepak Netaji Khot, Sandeep Shankar Chavan, Rituraj Vinayak Inamdar, and Saurabh Vikas, are under investigation for their roles in the incident. Mohammad Ali Khan was serving a life sentence for his alleged role in the 1993 attacks, which had significant repercussions on communal relations and security policies in India.
