Muslim Youth Assaulted by Mob in West Bengal on Unfounded Theft Allegations

Kolkata: A Muslim man was violently attacked by a group of Hindu extremists in Howrah, West Bengal, falsely accused of theft, in an incident reflecting the rising communal tensions in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the assault on Sheikh Masood-ul-Hassan, known locally as Manto, occurred in the Bankra area. He was attacked while en route to a friend’s house around 9 pm. Despite his attempts to deny the allegations, the mob accused him of stealing a mobile phone and beat him severely.

Police sources stated that after being discovered injured on the road by locals, Masood was taken to a private hospital in Howrah, where he continues to receive medical care. The community attests to Masood’s character, describing him as a well-regarded individual unfairly targeted in this attack. His family has urged authorities to take swift action against the attackers.
