National Assembly Speaker advocates stronger ties with Azerbaijan

Islamabad, The Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has emphasized the deep-seated fraternal relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, underscoring a shared heritage and the importance of expanding parliamentary and economic cooperation. These comments were made in a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Khazar Farhadov, at the Parliament House.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Ambassador Farhadov delivered a congratulatory message and an invitation from the Speaker of the Azerbaijani National Assembly, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, praising Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for his recent election victory. Sadiq expressed his gratitude for the congratulations and the invitation to visit Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, Speaker Sadiq highlighted the consistent alignment of both nations on various international issues, noting this as a reflection of the strong bilateral relationship. He appreciated Azerbaijan’s support for Pakistan’s position on Kashmir and recalled the Pakistani Parliament’s resolution condemning the Armenian aggression in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

Looking to the future, Sadiq proposed bolstering parliamentary diplomacy to further solidify ties and support the governments’ collaborative efforts. He proposed reinvigorating parliamentary friendship groups for greater inter-parliamentary cooperation. Additionally, the Speaker and Ambassador Farhadov discussed plans for an upcoming trilateral conference set to take place in Pakistan.
