National Disaster Management Authority organize Awareness Hiking/Walk to support vulnerable people during disaster

Islamabad, June 08, 2012 (PPI-OT): Rana Farooq Saeed Khan, the Federal Minister for Climate Change inaugurated a walk held at Trail-5, Islamabad. The objective of the walk/hiking was to promote a better understanding of the issues of vulnerable segments and to sensitize public about the needs, concerns and rights of these vulnerable groups during disasters.

The walk/hiking was organized by the “Gender and Child Cell” of the National Disaster Management Authority (GCC-NDMA) to safeguard and protect the needs and rights of all vulnerable groups i.e. “Elderly People”, “Women”, “Children”, “People with Special Needs” and “Elderly”.

Major partners of the walk included foreign diplomats, representatives from government, international community, and local CBOs. Moreover, members of blind cricket team-Pakistan, children, women and senior citizens also participated in the awareness hiking/walk.

A great enthusiasm was observed by the participants of the walk H.E Ms. Cecilie Landsberk, the Ambassador of Royal Norwegian Embassy, Ms. Rhonda Gosssen Ehsan, Head of CIDA, Main Waheed-ud-Din, Member CDA, officers from NDMA, representatives of UNWOMEN, and Helpage.
