National Disaster Management Authority Takes On the Floods

Islamabad: The recent deluge in the country has had a devastating effect on Sindh where vast areas of land have been inundated. The flood waters have taken horrendous toll of life and property. So far 88 people have perished, 80% of Banana, Dates, Chilli, Sugar Cane and Cotton crops have been destroyed and nearly 100,000 cattle heads are dead or missing.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is working tirelessly to provide rescue and relief to millions in the affected areas. So far the NDMA has sent 40,000 tents to the affected areas, while 100,000 more will be dispatched in the next 2 weeks (This the maximum tent providing capacity of Pakistan).

The NDMA, in coordination with the concerned DDMAs and the PDMA, is providing food to almost 4 Million affected souls, which has a fiscal involvement of Rs. 1.5 Billion. In addition, 25 NDMA teams are working in the affected areas.

The flood water may take 2 to 3 months to dry, after which NDMA will undertake a detailed survey of the flood affected areas.
