National seminar on Amputee Rehabilitation held

Rawalpindi, December 29, 2012 (PPI-OT): National Seminar on Amputee Rehabilitation – 2012 was held at Armed Forces Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFIRM) Rawalpindi today. Surgeon General, Lieutenant General Azhar Rasheed, was the chief guest.

Presenters delivered lectures on different topics related to amputee rehabilitation. Chief Guest alongwith the participants from AFIRM, PIPOS, Isra Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences (IIRS), ZUIS Pharmaland, Fauji Foundation Hospital (Artificial Limbs Centre) & Dow University of Health Sciences Karachi visited different stalls displaying components related to Upper & Lower Limb Amputees. AFIRM had presented the latest Bebionic hand which has the capacity of various types of grips used by the amputees.

AFIRM also presented & showed the sports prosthesis used by the lower limb amputees for running. A workshop on ice cast anatomy was also arranged by AFIRM. It is the only Tertiary care Rehab Centre in Pakistan which has all the disciplines related to physical medicines & rehabilitation under one roof. Patients received from all over the country are being provided with the latest prostheses. AFIRM is also equipped with ALAC (Artificial Limb & Appliances Centre) which has the capability of fabricating Prostheses & Orthoses.

Seminar was attended by various participants from different institutes and NGOs which are involved in amputee rehabilitation from all over the Pakistan. Participants showed lot of interest in the seminar.
Later, Lieutenant General Azhar Rasheed, Surgeon General presented souvenirs to the guest speakers.
