NDMA Alerts on Imminent Monsoon Rains in Northern Pakistan, Urges Preparedness

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for anticipated monsoon rains and thunderstorms across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Murree within the next 24 to 48 hours. The authority warned of potential flash floods and landslides in these regions, urging immediate precautions.

According to Press Information Department, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the NDMA forecasts isolated heavy rains that could lead to severe flash flooding in areas like Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, and Swabi. In response, NDMA has directed relevant departments to prepare emergency response teams and mobilize resources to handle potential emergencies effectively. Tourists are strongly advised to avoid traveling to the affected regions during the storm period, and locals are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to safety directives issued by authorities. The NDMA also recommends that the public download the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app for real-time weather updates and alerts.
