NDMA Issues Flash and Urban Flooding Alert for Multiple Regions in Pakistan

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning about potential flash and urban flooding across various regions in Pakistan due to ongoing torrential rains. The advisory focuses on the areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Murree, Galliyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Dir, Swat, Kashmir, and D.G Khan Rajanpur, extending till July 7, 2024. Additionally, cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Peshawar are expected to face urban flooding.

According to Press Information Department, the National Emergencies Operation Center of NDMA has received data indicating that the River Kabul may reach medium flood levels, with a flow of 93.5 thousand cusecs. Meanwhile, other major rivers are anticipated to maintain normal flow levels during this period. Local administrations and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) have been advised to monitor the situation closely and take necessary precautions to protect vulnerable populations. The NDMA also encourages the public to stay updated through their ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app, which provides timely disaster alerts and safety guidelines.
