NDMA Warns of Severe Monsoon Rains in Sindh, Calls for Preparedness

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert for expected heavy to very heavy rainfall across Sindh from August 26 to 29, 2024, which could lead to significant urban flooding, especially in major cities such as Karachi and Hyderabad.

According to Press Information Department, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of NDMA has forecasted that a strong monsoon system will affect most parts of Sindh in the coming 72 hours. Areas particularly expected to experience this severe weather include the divisions of Hyderabad, Karachi, Larkana, Mirpur Khas, as well as Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Ghotki, Sukkur, and Khairpur.

The expected heavy rainfall may lead to urban flooding in densely populated urban centers, with cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nawabshah, and Larkana being particularly vulnerable. In response, NDMA has directed all relevant authorities to enhance their preparedness, including alerting emergency response teams and mobilizing resources to address potential emergencies effectively.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to safety instructions issued by local authorities. NDMA also recommends downloading the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app to receive timely updates and monitor ongoing weather conditions closely.
