OIC Contact Group Urges Resolution to Kashmir Conflict

Banjul, The OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir convened recently in Banjul, The Gambia, alongside the 15th Islamic Summit, calling for an early and peaceful resolution to the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the meeting, led by OIC Assistant Secretary General (Political Affairs) Yousaf-Al-Dobeay, included representatives from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Niger, and Azerbaijan. The discussions focused on the dire political and human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), with significant emphasis on the alleged suppression of the Kashmiri people by Indian authorities.

Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, heading his country’s delegation, highlighted the severe conditions faced by Kashmiris under Indian rule, including widespread denial of fundamental rights and the creation of an environment of fear and intimidation. He called on the international community to address provocative actions and statements by Indian leaders concerning Azad Jammu and Kashmir, describing them as a serious threat to regional peace.

The Contact Group reaffirmed the critical nature of the Kashmir issue in the OIC agenda and voiced unanimous support for the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
