Srinagar, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah has publicly criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its continued anti-Muslim rhetoric, particularly during election periods, stating that such targeting does not contribute to the nation’s strength or unity.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during a rally in downtown Srinagar in support of party candidate Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Abdullah highlighted the detrimental impact of the BJP’s stance against Muslims, who make up 14 percent of India’s population. He expressed concern that the hostility is not confined to the electoral season but persists beyond, affecting communal harmony and national growth.
Abdullah also referenced recent violent incidents in Poonch and other regions, attributing a resurgence of militancy to the divisive policies of the current government. He urged for improved security measures and a more inclusive political dialogue, especially with neighboring Pakistan, to address these complex issues.
During his address, Abdullah reminisced about his tenure as chief minister from 2009 to 2014, a period he described as free from militancy in areas now experiencing renewed violence. He criticized the BJP’s refusal to acknowledge these security failures and emphasized the need for a strategic and inclusive approach to restore peace and stability in the region.
