Pace of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant and Research Institute Project reviewed

Lahore, February 21, 2016 (PPI-OT): Advisor on Health Kh. Salman Rafiq has said that Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant and Research Institute (PKLI) is a unique institution being set up in Trust-Mode where research, treatment and transplantation facilities of international standard will be available to the patients suffering from kidney and liver diseases and such patients will not have to go abroad for treatment.

He said this while presiding over a meeting of steering committee for reviewing the pace of progress on the PKLI Project in the office of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant and Research Institute (Trust), here today. Chairman PKLI Trust Prof. Saeed Akhtar, Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah, Additional Secretary to Chief Minister Muhammad Ali Aamir, besides officers of P and D, Finance, Building Department, LESCO, Sui Gas, NESPAK and other members of Steering Committee also attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that the work of underground piling for the construction of this mega project has been completed and 835 piles have been laid underground while process of pressure checking is continuing. It was told that the site office of the project has become functional and eight international companies have submitted tenders for the construction of the project. The meeting was told that the Pre-Bid meeting will be held on February 26.

LESCO engineers informed the meeting about the progress on providing electricity to PKLI. The meeting reviewed in detail the steps of laying pipelines for providing sui gas, sewerage and construction of roads. LESCO officials told that the work of construction of grid of the hospital and installation of big transformers for providing double source electricity will be completed during current year.

Officers of Sui Northern Company told the meeting that the purchase of sui gas pipes has been completed and the project of laying pipes will be completed by June. It was told that 3.3 Km pipe line of 10 inch diameter will be laid in this project. Secretary Health Najam Ahmed Shah directed LESCO, Sui Northern Gas, LDA and other concerned departments to present timeline and schedule of all works in the next meeting so that monitoring of construction work could be carried out in a better manner.

Chairman PKLI Trust Prof. Saeed Akhtar said that the first phase of this project consists of 300 beds and being a mega project, it has been divided into three packages A,B,C and the contract of each package will be awarded separately so that the project could be completed on fast track. He reiterated that as per announcement of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, the first phase of the project will be completed up to August 2017.
