Pak-China Digital Corridor to Deepen Bilateral Ties and Boost Global South: DPM

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has stated that Pak-China friendship is not ordinary diplomacy, but a relationship tested by time and strengthened by trust. Addressing the launching ceremony of the Pakistan Digital Economic Centre in Islamabad today, Dar emphasized that the emerging Pakistan-China digital corridor will not only deepen bilateral ties but also create opportunities for the wider global south.

According to Radio Pakistan, Chinese companies have already made significant contributions to fiber connectivity between Pakistan and China, establishing a true digital corridor. Dar highlighted that Pakistan and China are transitioning from roads to networks, and from physical infrastructure to digital architecture. He described the launch of the Pakistan Digital Economic Centre as a significant step towards innovation, digital connectivity, and the economy of the future, as the partnership between the two countries enters a new phase in the digital age.

Earlier, during the ceremony, Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja mentioned that the government passed the Digital Nation Pakistan Act last year, which aims to transform Pakistan into a digital society, economy, and governance model. She noted that digitizing Pakistan’s industry could unlock between five to seven percent of the GDP, potentially contributing twenty to thirty billion dollars to the country’s economy by 2030. Khawaja also highlighted that Pakistan has over two hundred million mobile subscribers and 157 million internet users.

On this occasion, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan stated that the government is implementing deep structural reforms aimed at transforming Pakistan into an export-oriented, industrially competitive, and investment-friendly economy.
