Pakistan Calls for OIC Action on Kashmir and Palestine at Summit in Gambia

Islamabad, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take decisive action on the crises in Kashmir and Palestine during the 15th OIC Summit Conference held in Banjul, The Gambia. Senator Dar emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank and the implementation of the OIC’s Action Plan for Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during his address at the summit, Senator Dar highlighted the severe human rights violations and unilateral changes imposed by India in Jammu and Kashmir since August 5, 2019. He urged the international community, particularly OIC member states, to influence India to halt its repressive measures, release detained Hurriyat leaders, and restore the demographic balance of the region.

The Deputy Prime Minister condemned the ongoing military actions by Israel in Gaza and the West Bank, labeling the situation as a genocide against the Palestinian people. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Furthermore, Senator Dar addressed the increasing instances of Islamophobia and discrimination against Muslims worldwide, urging the OIC to collaborate with global social media platforms to regulate anti-Islamic content effectively. He praised the OIC’s appointment of a Special Envoy on Islamophobia as a positive step towards combating such biases.

The Deputy Prime Minister also voiced his concerns over the rise in anti-Pakistan and Islamophobic rhetoric by Indian political leaders, which he stated poses a threat to regional stability. He emphasized Pakistan’s significant role in counter-terrorism efforts and encouraged the OIC to leverage its collective influence to promote global economic growth and address climate change challenges.
