Pakistan calls for restoration of the legitimate government and lasting peace in Yemen

Islamabad, June 23, 2018 (PPI-OT): Pakistan’s Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mr. Shafqat Jalil, who is heading the country’s delegation at the Information Ministers Conference of Coalition Countries Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen has said that Pakistan desires de-escalation of the ongoing crisis and an early commencement of negotiations among rival factions in order to restore peace and tranquillity in Yemen. Other members of Pakistan’s delegation included Ambassador of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Khan Hasham bin Siddique and Press Counsellor of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Muhammad Arshad Munir, says a press release received from Jeddah here today.

During his address at the International Conference of Information Ministers of Coalition Countries supporting Legitimacy in Yemen, arranged by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah today, Mr. Jalil said that Pakistan calls for unconditional restoration of the legitimacy government of President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi and withdrawal of rebel forces from the territories seized by them, including the capital Sanaa. He said that Pakistan remained concerned with the humanitarian situation in Yemen and the current humanitarian crisis calls for more concerted and coordinated efforts at the global level, to alleviate the sufferings of the Yemeni people.

He said that Pakistan contributed US$ 1 million in humanitarian aid to Yemen last year and welcomes the Saudi initiative of providing relief to the war victims in Yemen, in order to alleviate the sufferings of the Yemeni people. During his speech, Mr. Jalil underlined that Pakistan supports all efforts for peace in Yemen and calls for a political settlement, which can ensure lasting peace in the country. The Conference was represented by Information Ministers from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Sudan, Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Djibouti, Malaysia, Senegal, Yemen and Pakistan.
