Pakistan day observed in Kuwait

Islamabad, March 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): ‘It is indeed heartening to see the roots of democracy getting deeper and deeper in Pakistan with the democratic institutions gaining new strengths’, this was stated by Pakistan’s Ambassador in Kuwait Iftekhar Aziz while addressing the ceremony to mark country’s 73rd National Day today.

A large number of people representing cross-section of Pakistani community and officials of the Embassy were present on the occasion.

The Ambassador said the National Day celebrations this year come at a time when a democratically elected parliament has just completed its term and the people are bracing themselves to elect a new leadership. ‘A people’s representative parliament, an independent judiciary, a vocal media and a vibrant civil society are the pillars upon which the foundations of today’s Pakistan rest firmly’ he added.

Earlier, the ceremony started with the hoisting of Pakistani flag amid cheers from the jubilant participants. The National Day messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were also read to the audience.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan followed by cake cutting by the Ambassador and the community representatives, says a press release received here today from Kuwait.
