Pakistan Expresses Concerns Over Closure of Strait of Hormuz

Islamabad: Pakistan has expressed concerns over the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The concerns were articulated by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during the High-Level Open Debate of the UN Security Council.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad highlighted that if the crisis persists, the primary impacts related to the procurement of oil and gas, as well as essential commodities like fertilizers and their pricing trends, will increasingly lead to secondary and tertiary impacts on inflation, growth, current account, and balance of payments issues. He emphasized that developing countries will be the most affected by these disruptions.

Asim Iftikhar Ahmad stated that Pakistan, with the support of allied countries such as China, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt, has led constructive diplomatic efforts for de-escalation and the broader pursuit of stability between the United States and Iran. He reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast belief in diplomacy and dialogue, affirming the country’s commitment to undertaking all possible measures to achieve this end.
