Pakistan hosts 5th meeting of Pakistan-Russia joint working group on counter-terrorism

Islamabad, January 28, 2014 (PPI-OT): The 5th meeting of Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group on Counter-terrorism was hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad on 27 January 2014. Pakistan delegation was led by Acting Secretary Mr. Imtiaz Tajwar. The Russian side was led by H.E. Mr. Alexander V. Zmeyevskiy, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cooperation in the Fight against Terrorism and Transnational Crime.

During the 5th meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism, the two sides shared views on regional and national threats and effective way to counter them. The two sides also discussed mutual cooperation in countering drugs trafficking, anti-money laundering and combating organized crime. Cooperation on relevant issues at the regional and international fora was also reviewed.

Both sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation and sharing of information to effectively counter threats to national and regional security. Commencing in 2002, there have been four rounds of discussions on counter-terrorism between Pakistan and Russian Federation. The last round was hosted by the Russian Federation in 2009 in Moscow.
