Pakistan Launches First Large-Scale Low-Carbon Energy Storage Project

Islamabad: Pakistan has unveiled a significant development in low-carbon technology with the introduction of the first industrial-scale Energy Storage as a Service (ESaaS) project. The initiative, announced by Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, at a ceremony in Islamabad, marks a crucial step in the country’s efforts to enhance its energy infrastructure and reduce carbon emissions.

According to Press Information Department, the project was actualized by the Brillanz Group along with other key stakeholders committed to developing a sustainable ecosystem for energy storage. The ESaaS model allows customers to utilize energy storage systems through a service model rather than traditional purchasing methods. This approach aligns with the government’s ongoing strategies to tackle climate change and promote environmental sustainability.

The project aims to revolutionize energy storage capabilities and provide a sustainable solution for Pakistan’s energy needs, aligning with the government’s vision for a greener, more climate-resilient future. By reducing reliance on diesel imports, the initiative not only promotes energy efficiency but also addresses economic vulnerabilities, helping to mitigate foreign currency expenditure and shield the economy from exchange rate fluctuations.

Majid Misfer Alghamdi, Assistant Deputy Minister for Tourism from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, also spoke at the event, highlighting the economic and environmental benefits of the project. He emphasized that this initiative represents a small but critical step toward reducing the national carbon footprint and achieving environmental targets.
