Karachi: Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), announced that Mr. Syed Aftab Haider, CEO of Pakistan Single Window (PSW), visited Federation House to discuss the government’s efforts to digitize customs procedures in alignment with World Trade Organization guidelines. The meeting focused on increasing awareness within the Pakistani business community about the benefits and progress of the PSW system.
Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh emphasized the importance of educating businesses on how to utilize PSW services effectively, aiming to enhance the current use of pre-arrival Goods Declarations to a more substantial level. The initiative seeks to simplify and digitize trade processes, making them more efficient.
Mr. Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, Senior Vice President of FPCCI, stated that the PSW aims to create a unified electronic platform to streamline import, export, and transit trade regulations. The goal is to harmonize processes, reduce complexity, and improve digital integration across the board.
Mr. Asif Sakhi, Vice President of FPCCI, revealed that upon FPCCI’s recommendation, the government and PSW have decided to eliminate Advanced Payments on Goods Declarations by July 8, 2025. This move aligns with international best practices and supports trade promotion efforts.
Mr. Syed Aftab Haider explained that Pakistan is committed to modernizing its trade systems as part of its regional connectivity agenda. With the ratification of the WTO’s Agreement on Trade Facilitation, the PSW plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance and enhancing trade infrastructure.
To expand its user base, PSW will waive its Rs. 500 charge, following FPCCI’s suggestion. Currently, PSW connects 22 government departments and serves 94,000 users, having processed one million documents. The system aims to integrate all 77 relevant government departments as soon as possible.
Mr. Khurram Ijaz, Chairman of FPCCI’s Advisory Council on Customs and Director of PSW, highlighted the objectives of PSW, including transparent trade transactions, reduced costs and delays, and improved banking operations for trade. The initiative also focuses on real-time data exchange and paperless customs processing to boost exports and foreign direct investment.
