Attock: A significant hydrocarbon discovery has been made by Pakistan Oilfields Limited in the Jhandial-03 well located within the Ikhlas Block, according to a recent announcement. This discovery underscores a notable advance in the exploration efforts in the region.
The drilling operation at the Jhandial-03 well commenced on October 12, 2023, reaching a depth of 17,778 feet in the base Lockhart Formation. The primary goal of this well was to appraise the previously discovered hydrocarbons in the Sakesar formation of the Eocene epoch and to assess the potential of the deeper Lockhart and Patala formations from the Paleocene epoch. The well has been successfully completed in the Sakesar formation.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the Jhandial-03 well has shown promising flow rates across various choke sizes. At a choke size of 28/64 inches, the well demonstrated a flow of 714 barrels of oil per day and 10.20 million cubic feet of gas per day. The well head flowing pressure (VVHFP) at this size was recorded at 3,170 PSI. Smaller choke sizes of 24/64 inches and 20/64 inches showed oil flows of 701 and 677 barrels per day, respectively, with gas flows decreasing correspondingly to 9.60 and 8.40 million cubic feet per day. At the smallest tested choke size of 16/64 inches, the flow increased to 767 barrels per day, though the gas flow reduced to 7.40 million cubic feet per day.
The successful extraction from Jhandial-03 is expected to be integrated into the production line within the next three weeks. Pakistan Oilfields Limited holds an 80% working interest in the Ikhlas Block, while The Attock Oil Company retains a 20% interest.
