Islamabad: Pakistan’s annual headline inflation rate has decreased to 4.07% in January 2025, down from 4.9% the previous month, while a marginal month-on-month increase of 0.06% was observed.
According to a statement by United Nations World Food Programme, the report notes a 0.27% rise in annual food inflation compared to December 2023. Prices of staple cereals, specifically wheat and wheat flour, have shown negligible changes from the previous month. However, a year-on-year analysis reveals a significant decrease in their prices alongside a slight reduction in rice varieties, Irri-6 and Basmati.
Non-cereal food prices exhibited fluctuation over the past month. A slight increase was detected in the prices of ghee, sugar, and cooking oil, alongside negligible hikes in pulse moong and eggs. Over the past year, notable increases were recorded for pulses such as gram and moong, and ghee, while prices decreased for masoor, mash, sugar, and eggs.
The report also highlights an improvement in Pakistan’s Terms of Trade by 0.9% over the past month, with an overall enhancement of 66% compared to the previous year.
