Pakistan Tennis Federation to hold Council Members Tournament soon

Islamabad: Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) would hold its maiden PTF Council Members Tournament where 14 Council Members would be requested to field their teams for the mega event.

Highlighting the achievement of PTF, an office bearer of the federation said that it has recently held first Aisam-ul-Haq tournament, and the federation now prepares to shortlist panel of coaches and potential players for focusing to produce champions.

PTF also intends to set up recreation facilities for the players like swimming pools, players lounge, retiring rooms.

Pakistan is at 58th position in world ranking of tennis. Aisam ul Haq, who reached the final in US-Open Mixed Double and men’s double, grabs number nine 9. Pakistan’s No. 1 woman player and Junior Tennis champion is Ushna Suhail and Imam Qureshi is at 5th number in under-14 in Asia.

Tennis is gaining popularity in Pakistan after Aisam ul Haq won laurels at international arena. The Federation is meagrely supported by the government and is generating funds through sponsorship and advertisement, he added.

The newly team of PTF led by Syed Kaleem Imam, he said, brought luck and new zeal to the federation, which was previously plagued by in-house politics and wrong play. PTF has been transformed into a working body today.

Due to his conduct and known integrity, the tennis associations which are affiliated with the armed forces of Pakistan supported Kaleem Imam’s efforts to promote the game.

Ever since he assumed presidentship of the PTF, Kaleem Imam has brought two foreign coaches to train the players.

The new PTF President has also been able to hold eight national level tournaments, sent teams to participate in under-14 events in Myanmar, women team for Federation Cup in Bangkok, besides winning the Davis Cup tie against Hongkong.

Besides, several local coaching clinics and training programs were held to prepare the players for international events.

It is learnt that PTF would hold UBL Cup, Gilgit-Baltistan Trophy, ZTBL tournament and few other local tournaments, besides inviting one more foreign coach by calendar year end.

Tennis players, Standing Committee on Sports, and International Tennis Bodies have highly appreciated the positive and proactive developments taking place at PTF.

Tennis players are happy with the new team of PTF, which is endeavoring for the promotion of tennis and introducing infrastructure to bring forward the potential players.

Pakistani players have the talent and they do have the potential as well to earn repute for the country in the game of tennis provided they are given every facility at home. Government’s role in this respect is earnestly awaited, he concluded.
