Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has announced that Pakistan’s international reputation has improved due to its strategic and proactive diplomacy over the past year. He shared this assessment during a year-end briefing in the capital city.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ishaq Dar highlighted that Pakistan’s decisive actions in a recent four-day conflict with India have effectively challenged India’s claim as the primary security provider in South Asia. He stated that Pakistan did not seek a ceasefire and effectively countered Indian aggression by downing seven fighter jets and neutralizing almost all incoming drones.
Addressing the Jammu and Kashmir issue, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s continued advocacy for a just resolution through a UN-brokered plebiscite, aligning with the wishes of the Kashmiri people. He stressed that regional peace depends on resolving this long-standing dispute.
Ishaq Dar also spoke about the positive trajectory of Pakistan’s relations with Bangladesh, noting a warm reception during his visit to Dhaka. He mentioned that engagements with Sri Lanka and Nepal are also improving.
In the Middle East context, Dar affirmed Pakistan’s strong ties with Gulf countries, particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which have supported Pakistan in challenging times. He highlighted a new strategic mutual defence agreement with Saudi Arabia and underscored the importance of Trkiye in Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.
Regarding ties with the United States and the European Union, Dar noted Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic approach, which has turned challenges into opportunities. He reported that bilateral trade with the US has surpassed thirteen billion dollars. He also mentioned successful engagements with US President Donald Trump concerning the Palestinian issue.
Dar expressed hope for the continuation of GSP Plus status with the European Union and emphasized Pakistan’s engagement with Central Asian nations for trade, transport, and energy cooperation.
On relations with China, Ishaq Dar described them as exemplary, highlighting the strengthening partnership and cooperation between the two nations across various fields. He also mentioned Pakistan’s active participation in international forums like the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, noting plans to host the ECO and SCO summits in 2027.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need for Pakistan to leverage its natural resources to transform into an economic power. He highlighted international interest from countries like the United States, Saudi Arabia, and China in Pakistan’s mineral resources, particularly in Reko Diq.
On Afghanistan, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s demand that Afghan soil should not be used against Pakistan.
