Lahore: Pakistan’s rapidly expanding population is exerting significant pressure on the nation’s resources, infrastructure, and environment.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Director General Saman Roi emphasized the critical impacts of the current and anticipated population surge in Pakistan. The growing demand is straining essential resources like water, food, and energy, and exacerbating challenges in healthcare, unemployment, and environmental degradation.
Projections suggest that Pakistan’s population could reach 338 million by 2050 and 455 million by 2100, intensifying issues such as food insecurity and water scarcity. The rise in greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption is also expected to contribute to climate change.
To address these challenges, Director General Roi outlined necessary measures including enhancing access to family planning resources, improving education, and implementing sustainable urban planning to support expanding cities. Effective resource management and conservation efforts are crucial to mitigating the adverse effects of population growth on Pakistan’s socio-economic stability.
